Okay, I’m taking a break from transcribing an interview tape. I don’t like writing notes the whole time I interview people for a story so I tape record the interview instead. Trouble is, I have to transcribe the tape when I get home. And it’s really boring. And I have a short attention span so I keep checking my email and jumping on the internet to see what’s happening on Facebook. So, since I’ve visited Facebook way too may times already, I thought I’d feel somewhat productive and update my blog.
Thursday night a few of my friends, including co-WUMiN member Joy Riggs, went to River City Books in Northfield to hear Lorna Landvik read from two of her books - The View from Mount Joy and ‘Tis the Season! Lorna is so much fun to listen to and is so funny! I highly recommend going to see her if you can. She’ll be doing improv shows at the Bryant Lake Bowl in January and I can’t wait to go. I purchased The View from Mount Joy and started to read it right when I got home. I’ve read a few of Lorna’s other books and have enjoyed them all. Which ones have I read? Patty Jane’s House of Curl, Oh My Stars, Angry Housewives Eating BonBons and Welcome to the Great Mysterious. Do I have a favorite? Yes - all of them! Really, they all are super good and it’s hard to choose but, if forced, I would probably pick Oh My Stars.
Last week I attended another book reading, again with Joy and also with another of the WUMiN women, Christine Lienke. The reading was from a new book, Riding Shotgun: Women Write About Their Mothers. One of my favorite writers, Faith Sullivan, has an essay in the book and read at the event. Read more about the book reading on Joy’s Blog.
Okay, back to the grindstone. Or maybe I’ll just go to bed. It’s after 10:00 p.m.
