A few months ago, I finished reading Life from Scratch: a memoir of food, family, and forgiveness by Sasha Martin, blogger at Global Table Adventure. I thoroughly enjoyed the book so I wrote a mini-review to recommend Life from Scratch to our customers at Content Bookstore. Among other things, I wrote that Life from Scratch is “a delicious read, with recipes!”
Each chapter of the book has a recipe (or two) that goes along with the storyline. I love trying new recipes, especially for desserts, and had my eyes on a couple of the dessert recipes from the get go – one for a German Tree Cake and another for a Dark Chocolate Guinness Cake with Bailey’s Buttercream Frosting.
I’m happy to say that I made the Chocolate Guinness Cake a few days ago. The recipe in Life from Scratch was easy to follow and the result was spectacular! Moist. Rich. Flavorful. Chocolate. Yum!
You can find the recipe for the Dark Chocolate Guinness Cake, and hundreds of other recipes, at Global Table Adventure (click HERE for the cake recipe). Better yet, feed the part of you that loves a good book and REALLY loves a good book when it includes recipes and get yourself a copy of Life from Scratch. It’s a literary treat!
P.S. A note regarding ingredients – in keeping with the Irish theme of a Guinness beer cake, I used Irish butter in the recipe. I also used pasture-raised eggs from Locally Laid Eggs which were mentioned in my recent blog post titled Locally Laid – A Plucky Memoir.
